Olayiwola Akanmu started on Lagos construction sites in 2017, working his way up from site supervision through project management before relocating to Portugal to pursue an MSc and deepen his focus on sustainable, industrialised construction.
His work spans structural assessment, non-destructive testing, and deep foundation and pile construction, with a consistent thread of cutting rework, defects, and cost through rigorous quality control and clear-eyed contract negotiation.
In Portugal, he's collaborating with HausGrid on modular, Passive House-driven building systems, bringing the field-first discipline of a site technician to the earlier, higher-leverage decisions made at the design and manufacturing stage.
He's bilingual in English and Português, and stays involved in research and mentorship, having previously been recognised as Student Tutor of the Year at the University of Lagos.
